A better starting point for your wall.
Wainscot Workshop helps you turn measurements into a balanced layout, a cut list and a trip to the lumber aisle.
Made for the first wall, and the next one
This independent DIY project combines an interactive planner with original measuring, materials, cutting and installation guides. Change a dimension and see the revised layout, stile positions, cuts, board quantities and waste immediately. You do not need an account to use the public tool.
The planner models an applied system: horizontal flat rails, vertical stiles and optional panel molding, chair rail and sheet backing. It does not model the joinery of beadboard kits, tongue-and-groove boards or proprietary panel products.
How the numbers are worked out
For each wall section, the planner compares whole panel counts and chooses the closest equal spacing to your target. Full-height openings divide the wall into sections; smaller openings remove intersecting trim from the existing grid.
The stock maps include saw kerf, end trimming, rounded rough cuts and corner fitting allowances. Identical material sizes share a stock group. The nesting method produces a practical, repeatable cut plan; it does not guarantee the fewest possible boards. Extra boards are listed separately from cutting waste. Sheet waste and strips lost while ripping are separate from linear board waste.
Measure from a common left edge, verify actual product dimensions, check fastening surfaces and dry-fit before final cuts. The planner cannot inspect your wall, locate hidden services or predict crooked floors and corners.
Independent, with clear references
Wainscot Workshop is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Home Depot, Google, or the trim manufacturers linked in the guides. Retailer links are ordinary search and reference links, with no affiliate commission currently attached. Product availability, prices and dimensions must be checked with the retailer.
The finished-wall photo is an AI-generated illustration. The scaled planner diagrams are calculated from your inputs. Guide reference links identify related manufacturer and retailer instructions.
